Prison Ratings 2017

“HMPPS” , or HM prison & Probation Service, (the successors to “NOMS” , or the National Offender Management Service) has published a league table of all English and Welsh prisons, rating them from ” 4 ” for a prison which is exceptional down to “1” for a prison which is of serious concern.

The prisons which scored 4 are all relatively small and deal with a specialist population ( high risk, women, sex offenders etc) and the worst performers are predominately larger prisons in old buildings . All the old big London prisons are rated at a “1”, being of serious concern.
