HMYOI Werrington, Visits and getting there

Social visits are on Wed, Fri, Sat & Sun between 14:00 & 16:00

Visits can be booked by telephoning 0300 060 6508 between the hours of 09:00 and 18:00 Monday – Friday (excluding Bank Holidays). You must give at least 48 hrs notice of a visit and you can’t book more than 28 days in advance. There is also an e-mail booking service at [email protected] . Remember you must say who you are visiting and give full details of yourself and any other visitor when using this service. You can also book visits online visit www.gov.uk/prison-visits

All you need is  the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting and  their prisoner number. You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what’s available and confirm your visit by email. You’ll also receive your visiting order (VO) number by email. You must bring this with you when you visit.

Prisoners are allowed 1 visit per week, with an additional visit being allowed when they first arrive a Werrington. There is a maximum of 3 adults and 3 children (under 10yrs) allowed at any one visit. All visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors are expected to bring identification on the day of the visit and will not be admitted unless this is available.

No valuables can be taken into the visits hall and these must be left either in a car or in the lockers provided in the outside visits centre. Good behaviour is expected from prisoners and visitors and disruptive behaviour whilst in the visits centre will result in termination of the visit and visitors being banned from re-visiting for a period of time.

Werrington  also offer Family Visits.  This is a chance for the family to see the establishment and spend a day with their family member to ensure his well being. Parents, carers and siblings are all welcome. Further information is available from the Resettlement department at the establishment.

Transport to the Prison

Werrington Juvenile Centre is situated near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire and the nearest mainline railway station is Stoke– on–Trent. From the station take a bus (25) to Hanley Bus Station from the bus stop opposite the station. This goes every 10 minutes during the day and the trip to Hanley Bus Station takes about 10 minutes. Change bus and catch #32  This goes every 20 minutes during the day and the trip to Werrington takes about 13 minutes.

By car exit the M6 at  Junction 15 and take the A500 towards Stoke on Trent. Join the A50 and exit at junction 5 (Meir) and take A520 towards Leek. Pass through Weston Coyney unto you reach Cellarhead, turn left and Werrington is on the left.

From the M1 exit at Junction 23a. Follow signs for A50 Stoke. Continue along A50 (over several roundabouts) until Leek exit onto A520. Head towards Leek. Pass through Weston Coyney unto you reach Cellarhead, turn left and Werrington is on the left.

Limited car parking, including designated bays for the disabled, is available on site.
