HMP & YOI Peterborough, Visits & getting there

Visits are held at the following times:

  • Tuesday 13:30-18:30
  • Wednesday 13:30-18:30
  • Thursday 13:30-18:30
  • Saturday 13:30-16:30
  • Sunday 13:30-16:30

The last booking slot is 1 hour before the end of the visiting session. If it is a Bank Holiday weekend visiting times apply, there are no visits on Xmas day.

Reception visits (the 1st visit) are booked by telephoning 01733 217536; the prisoner books normal visits and it is up to them to tell pass the details to the visitors. You are advised to arrive at the visitors centre ½ hr before your scheduled visiting time to complete formalities. You are not allowed to take certain items such as mobile phones, cigarettes etc into the visits hall , and you will be expected to provide photo ID and proof of address before being admitted. All visitors will be searched (including children) by the prison staff. You can take some money (under £20) into the prison to buy tea/coffee etc during your visit

The visitors centre is run with help from Friends of Peterborough Prison (click here) and has access for wheelchairs. There are lockers to leave mobile phones, cigarettes etc during your visit.

Peterborough prison is close to the city centre, about ½ miles away. Buses run Monday to Saturday every 10 minutes from the City Centre Bus Station (Bay 2). The nearest bus stop to the prison is on Westfield Road – opposite the Shell petrol station, about a 5 mins walk from the prison Buses also run on a Sunday from Bay 2 twice an hour Bus timetables  or call 01733 207860.

The nearest train station is Peterborough City Centre. It is a 20 mins walk along Bourges Boulevard / Mayors Walk , but there is a taxi rank.

If driving leave the main A47 and take the A15 towards the city centre, at the 2nd roundabout turn right into Westfield Road, then at the 1st roundabout right again into Gresley Way. After 200yds turn right at the roundabout and then left at the T junction, there is parking available at the prison .
