HMP Northumberland, Visits & getting there

Visits are held at the following times:

  • Tuesday: 1400 – 1630
  • Wednesday: 1400 – 1630
  • Thursday: 1400 – 1630
  • Saturday 0915 – 1130, 1400 – 1600
  • Sunday 0915 – 1130, 1400 – 1600

You must pre-book visits by calling 01670 382173 between 0900-1130 and 1330-1600 Mon – Thurs and 0900 – 1130 and 1330 – 1500 on a Friday. Prisoners can also book visits themselves using an in house booking system.

There is a visitors centre run by NEPACS Click here or call 01670 383736. The centre is where you should check in for your visit; be sure to allow at least 30 mins for the formalities. You will need to provide photo ID and proof of address. The Centre has lockers where you can leave items like mobiles, cigarettes etc during your visit; you will be searched prior to being admitted to the visiting hall .

The prison is in a rural location, the nearest town being Morpeth which is about 15 miles away.  Buses  run from Newcastle click here , the trip takes around an hour. The closest station is Acklington, but there are very few trains.

If driving head up (or down) the A1, the  turning towards Acklington is between Morpeth and Alnwick on the A1068 The prison is signposted from the village centre.
