Visits & getting there, HMP Haverigg

Visits are held daily between 13:45 – 15:45

To book a visit call 01229 713 016. This line is open from 13:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday. You can also book online at www.gov.uk/prison-visits. All you need is the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting, their prisoner number and details of the visitors.You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what’s available and confirm your visit by email. You’ll also receive your visiting order (VO) number by email. You must bring this with you when you visit. If you’ve made an online visit booking request and haven’t received a confirmation email within 1-3 working days, email [email protected]

There is a visitors’ reception centre outside the prison and a tea bar within the visits hall providing hot and cold food and drinks and a small play area run by local volunteers in the visits hall. Call 01229713274 or visit their web site (click here)  Like at all prisons there are restrictions on what you can take into the prison (no mobiles, cigarettes, food & drink etc) and you can leave these in lockers at the visitors centre. You will be searched before being allowed into the visits hall, and there will be drug dogs on duty.

The nearest railway station is Millom, click here  about 2-3 miles from the prison. Either take a cab (try 01229 774995) or a bus #15 bus from the Market Square which is 200 yards from Millom railway station Bus timetable

The nearest motorway to Haverigg is the M6 J36, about an hour away. Leave the M6 at junction 36, signposted Barrow and Kendal. Continue on the A590, taking the first slip road still following signs for Barrow for approximately 27 miles until the road runs adjacent to Morecambe Bay. At the village of Greenodd, turn right on to the A590, signposted to Workington, Whitehaven etc. Stay on this road for 10 miles, going up over the fells and down by-passing Broughton in Furness. After Broughton in Furness (you will pass the High Cross Inn on your right), follow the A595 over Duddon Bridge and continue for 2.5 miles until Hallthwaites. (The prison is signposted from here.) Turn left, following the signs for Millom and Haverigg. Travel through Millom turning right at the BP garage and turn first left for Haverigg. Turn left at the end of the road and follow this road to Haverigg village. Turn right at the Harbour Hotel and turn left at the end of the main street.

HMP Haverigg is at the end of the lane with ample visitors’ parking.
