The prison’s focus is Resettlement and re-integrating prisoners into the community on discharge.

Education and training provided by Manchester College and there are a wide range of education and training opportunities. Basic skills in literacy and numeracy are taught, rising to higher level qualifications and vocational qualifications.

The gymnasium provides wide access to recreational PE but also offers a range of training related gym and courses working towards qualifications and employment in the leisure industry on release. A community work party is also operate allowing prisoners to become more involved in aspects of the voluntary sector in the community. The prison has an active Chapliancy and a well stocked library.
