Regimes at Franklands

Education: is provided in conjunction with Manchester College. A wide range of subjects are available for prisoners starting with basic numeracy and literacy to distance learning degree courses. Education is run throughout the year, there are no “half terms” or school holidays! Prisoners have access on a regular basis to the prison library.

Workshops: work opportunities exist in the furniture production workshop, a charity workshop, and a sight and sound workshop. PICTA, CIT and VTC courses are available. The usual array of orderly positions are offered by the prison, subject to the individuals security risk assessment.

Gym: there is a large gym and an extensive physical education programme for prisoners; all priosners are given regular access to the gym

Healthcare is provided by the NHS and Care UK. The usual type of visiting specialists conduct surgeries such as dentistry, opticians etc. There are beds available for 14 prisoner’s either in a small ward or private rooms
