Visits & Getting there, Elmley

Visits are held Monday – Sunday: 13:45 – 16:15.

You can book a visit by calling 0300 060 6605, the phone is manned 09:00-16:00 Mon – Fri, or e-mail [email protected]. You can also book visits online at www.gov.uk/prison-visits. All you need is the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting and their prisoner number. You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what’s available and confirm your visit by email. You’ll also receive your visiting order (VO) number by email. You must bring this with you when you visit. If you’ve made an online visit booking request and haven’t received a confirmation email within 1-3 working days, email [email protected].

The visit centre opening times 12:00-16:30, and there is an unsupervised children’s play area and a refreshment bar . You can also buy refreshments in the visits hall. The prison will allow you to bring in clothes for prisoners within 28 days of prisoner entering the establishment, subject to the prisoner making a prior application and this being approved.

Getting there

By train, the nearest station is Sheerness, about 8 miles form the prison. Click her for train times.  Bus and taxi services are available from here run by Chalkwell and Arriva . Call 01745 423982 or click here or here for Arriva.

If travelling by car follow A249 signposted to Sittingbourne and Sheerness, then over the bridge to the Isle of Sheppey. At the end of the dual carriage go straight across first roundabout, on the second roundabout take the third turning Towards Minster and Eastchurch. Go straight across at the next roundabout and stay on the Lower Road until you come to another roundabout. Take the second turning, continue a short distance to the next roundabout and take the third turning towards the prison (signposted). Continue down the road where you will see a mini roundabout. Go straight across and follow the road to the bottom. There are 5 traffic calmers (sleeping policemen) , and Elmley prison is at the end of the road on the left.
