Visits & Getting there, Berwyn

These are the official visiting times:

  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursday   09:00  – 11:00 , 14:00 – 16:00  , 17:30 –  18:30
  • Wednesday   09:00  – 10:00 , 10:15 – 11:15 , 14:00- 15:00 , 15:15 – 16:15 , 17:30  – 18:30  
  • Friday , no visits
  • Saturday/Sunday , 09:00 – 11.00, 14:00 – 16:00 

Visitors can book in for visits 1 hour before the scheduled visit time, and you should do so to ensure all the formalities are completed on time.

Visits may be booked by phone , 01978 523300 or online at\prison-visits. They can be booked up to 7 days in advance and are on a “first come, first served ” basis. as at all prisons, suitable ID must be provided such a passport, driving license etc.

There is a visitors centre run by PACT, 01978 523004, and they will be able to give you up to date details on the exact procedures to be followed. You cannot book visits with PACT, but the visitors centre does provide lockers for you to leave prohibited items such a mobile phone, cigarettes, VAPE’s etc which are not allowed into the prison. The maximum amount of money you can take into the prison is £30, and this must be in coins not notes .

The prison does support the Prison Voicemail service. This allows friends and families to call a dedicated number to leave messages for the prisoner, who can pick them up from the prison with the correct PIN number. Go to for more details.

Berwyn is not the easiest prison to get to. It served by 2 stations, both about 4 miles away. Taxi’s are available at the stations, (both in Wrexham), or book in advance on:

  • Wrexham Prestige taxis 01978 357777
  • Station Cars (which is located outside Wrexham General railway station) 01978 363661.

Visitors are able to order a taxi from the prison.
