HMP Ashfield is situated on the old site of HMP Pucklechurch. Ashfield opened on 1 November 1999, following the award of a design, construct, manage and finance contract to Premier Prison Services Ltd. The establishment was re-roled in 2004 to accommodate solely juveniles after investment from the Youth Justice Board and has now been re-roled again to house male Cat C adult sex offenders from 2014. It has been run by Serco since July 2005 and is part of the South West Region. It has a capacity of just over 400 and the #1 governor is the #1 governor is Jon Bratt, who has been in post since March 2023.
Accommodation is in a mixture of single and double cells over 8 small wings.
