HMYOI Glen Parva, Work and education

Glen Parva offers a wide range of vocational training and educational opportunities which promote the growth and development of skills that will assist in finding and keeping employment upon release. There are a wide range of courses on offer alongside practical, skill based training recognised by a broad cross-section of employers.

Allocation to work and education is driven by Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), which link into each individual prisoner’s OASys Assessment, with the process being controlled by the Labour Board.

The curriculum offer is outlined below:

Vocational Workshops, Trackwork (Permanent Way Rail), Motor Vehicle, Motorcycle, BICSc, NVQ Engineering, Tiling, Barbering, Farms and Gardens, Staff Mess, Brickwork, Carpentry, Painting and Decorating, Painting Party, NVQ Training Kitchen, Fork Lift Truck

Production Workshops, Injection Moulding, Production Laundry, Production Kitchen

Education Classes, CSCS Card, ECDL, CAD, Literacy (Entry to Level 2), Numeracy (Entry to Level 2), Business Studies, Citizenship, Career Planning, Art, Basic Cookery, ESOL

The Trackwork programme is very successful in placing learners into employment upon release and is one of a very small number of establishments that offer this training.

When a prisoner arrives at the prison they are given a full education diagnostic screening to at induction to fully identify any areas of support and assistance that is needed for each individual prisoner.
