Visits are held at the following times:

You can book online, go to www.gov.uk/prison-visits, all you need is the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting, their prisoner number and details of the visitors. You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what’s available and confirm your visit by email. If you’ve made an online visit booking request and haven’t received a confirmation email within 1-3 working days, call 01833 633 349. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 12:00. There is a visitors centre at Deerbolt, click here or call 01833 633272. You can leave items you are not allowed to take into the prison, such as mobile, cigarettes, food & drink etc in lockers at the centre; the visiting centre staff will advise you on what is permissible. Make sure you arrive at the centre at least 45 mins before your visit so that the formalities can be completed, you will be required to supply photo ID and proof of address. You will be searched before being admitted to the prison. You can only take change into the prison visits hall to buy refreshments, no note accepted.

If driving
- fom M6 take exit 38 marked Tebay – Brough – Kirby Stephen – A685. Well signed at roundabout for A66 – Scotch Corner. Take A67 for Barnard Castle. After 4 miles you will arrive at a T Junction with the castle in front of you across the river. Turn left, and after 100 metres you will see HMYOI Deerbolt signed on your left, or
- leave the A1 at Scotch Corner – follow sign for A66 – Penrith – (Kendal) – Carlisle – Barnard Castle. After 12 miles you will see a sign for Barnard Castle. Follow the sign into the town and at the Market Cross (roundabout), go down the hill following the road round to the right until traffic lights are reached on the bridge. Over the bridge, turn right. HMYOI Deerbolt is the second on the left. or
- from Darlington take A67 out of Darlington, (direct road to Barnard Castle – 16 miles). On reaching Barnard Castle follow A67 which is the main road through the town. On reaching the Market Cross (roundabout), go round it and down the hill, following the road as it bears right until a set of traffic lights is reached at the bridge. Over the bridge turn right. HMYOI Deerbolt is the second on the left.
