General Information, HMP Wymott

Wymott opened in 1979 as a short-term category C prison. There was extensive damage to the prison as a result of a disturbance in about 20 years ago, following which part of the prison was rebuilt and redesignated to hold vulnerable prisoners.

  • C wing – 118 mainstream prisoners
  • D wing – 236 mainstream prisoners
  • E/F wing – 172 mainstream prisoners, segregation unit & PIPE
  • G wing – 94 Vulnerable prisoners
  • H wing -112 mainstream prisoners
  • I wing – 59 Older prisoners and those with a disability
  • J wing –  40 enhanced prisoners
  • K wing – 64 Drug and alcohol therapeutic community
