General Details, HMP The Mount

HMP The Mount opened in 1987 as a young offender institution and changed role to a male category C prison in 1989. It is situated on the outskirts of Bovingdon in Hertfordshire.

 Accommodation

 The purpose built accommodation comprises 4 main wings , Lakes, Ellis, Fowler and Brister, which each have 4 spurs on 2 landings, the Annexe which holds 36 prisoners on two floors.

3 newer wings have been added, Howard wing (added in 1995), Dixon wing (added in 1999) and Narey wing (added in 2007) which is a 48-bed unit, mainly for indeterminate-sentenced prisoners.  A new wing (Nash wing) which will hold 250 was completed in spring 2015 and will be fully operation by summer 2015.
