Trouble at Swinfen Hall

During the evening of 6th August the governor of HMP & YOI Swinfen Hall had to request the assistance of the Tornado Squad to help bring under control a section of the prison. The Tornado Squad are made up of prison officers volunteers who have been specifically trained in restoring order and control over prisons where there is an “act of concerted indiscipline” ( the prison’s services term for a riot). It is national resource and is only used in the most serious of incidents, its use is sanctioned by HMP Command in London.

It appears that the prison was back under control around midnight, and there are no reports of if any injuries to officers, however 4 prisoners are receiving medical treatment.
