Work & Education at Styal

Novus provide the education at Styal . The prison offers the courses by individual learning and outreach education as well as traditional means.

Workshops: Styal has a number of workshops, including Textile and Contract Services (which provides clothing and bedding for general prison service use), Painting and Decorating, Industrial Cleaning Centre, ICT Training and Resource Centre, and GILDS Silver Service .Vocational qualification can be taken in all these areas. There is the usual array of orderly jobs such as Gardens, Kitchens, Housekeeping, Estate Cleaning, Reception, Drop in Centre, Health Care Centre, Visits, Mental Health Resources Centre, CALM Centre, Support Mentors, Gymnasium and the Library.

In the spring of 2015 a new “Clink” restaurant was opened at the prison, run in conjunction with the Clink Charity (www.theclinkcharity.org). This venture, open to the public, will employ up to 30 prisoners and provide expert training in all aspects of “fine dining” catering.
