General Information, Kirkham

HMP Kirkham is on the site of a former Royal Air Force base. The facility was taken over by the Home Office in the early 1960s and converted to a prison. The prisoner accommodation was built around 20 year ago, but the administration blocks date back to the 1940s. 

Accommodation

There are 24 dormitories of varying size. Each dormitory has a prisoner telephone, in room TV, kitchenette and shower facility. New prisoners are located in the Admissions Unit, which has all double occupancy rooms, before being moved to a general location.
