Visits & getting there, HMP Kennet

Visits are held at the following times

  • Tue: 18.30 – 19.30
  • Wed: 18.30 – 19.30
  • Thu: 18.30 – 19.30
  • Sat: 14.00 – 15.00 and 15.30 – 16.30
  • Sun: 14.00 – 15.00 and 15.30 – 16.30

Visits times over the Festive Holidays/Bank Holidays etc are subject to change.

You can book online at www.gov.uk/prison-visits. All you need is the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting, their prisoner number and details of the visitors. You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what’s available and confirm your visit by email. If you’ve made an online visit booking request and haven’t received a confirmation email within 3 working days, email [email protected]

You also book a visit by calling 0151 213 3179 or 0151 213 3180. The booking line is open between Monday – Friday 9.30 – 11.15 and 14.00 – 16.15, Saturday and Sunday 9.30 – 11.15 and 14.00 – 16.15.. Alternatively email the prison with the prisoners name and #, and details of the visitors and the desired dates on [email protected]; don’t assume you have booked a visit until it has been confirmed by the prison!

Remember to bring the Visiting Order with you when you come for the visit otherwise you will be denied entry to the visits hall and the visit will be lost. Each prisoner is allowed a number of visits each month depending on their IEP status (up to 5 a month for enhanced prisoners), and each visit is precious!

There is a visitors centre run by a national charity click here  or call 0151 213 3412 where lockers are available to leave items you are not allowed to take into the prison such as mobile phones, cigarettes, food & drink etc. (£1 deposit for the locker key) You will be searched before being allowed into the prison and there may be a drug done on duty. Getting there:

The prison is located next to Ashworth Hospital in Parkbourn, Maghull. It is served by Arriva bus numbers 350 and 351 from Liverpool Monday to Saturday, and CMT bus numbers 210 and 250 provide a Sunday service. All buses leave from Sir Thomas Street, Liverpool and stop within the complex. Click here . The nearest station is Maghull, on the Northern Ormskirk route, click here  about 1-2 miles from the prison. Taxi’s are available at the station, or call 0151-526 5050.

If driving from Liverpool take the A59 Preston Road which leads directly into Maghull and turn right at the traffic lights (Maghull junction) on to Eastway and School Lane. The entrance to HMP Kennet is on the left hand side approximately 1 ½ miles along this road, 100m before the M58 junction. From other parts of the country the prison leave the M6 at Junction 26 and join the M58 as far as junction 1. Head towards Maghull and the prison entrance is on the right side as you leave the M58 roundabout.

There is no exit at Junction 1 of the M58 when driving from the direction of Liverpool.
