HMP Hewell was again successful at the annual Koestler awards picking up a gold medal and several commendations. The Koestler awards, which are for achievements in the arts for prisoners, are a national competition with a high standard of submission. The theme for the awards in 2014 was “danger and support”, and a gold medal was awarded in the poetry category to a serving prisoner at the Grange Resettlement Unit.

A spokesman from the Koestler Trust said “these awards show yet again how prisoners can develop their skills and confidence while in custody, while will serve them well upon release”
