HMP Gartree, Visits and getting there

There is a Visitor’s Centre providing for social visitors in partnership with PACT, a national charity.  Click here or call 01858 426614Booking information: Pre-book on 01858 426 727. Booking line opening times are 10:00 – 11:15 Monday to Saturday and 13:30 -16:00 Monday to Friday

You may pre-book your social or official visit by calling the visits booking line on 01858 426 727. The booking line is open Monday to Friday 9:00am – 12.00pm and 2.00pm – 4.00pm.  You can also now book social and official visits via email on: [email protected].  You will receive an automated reply and a confirmation email will be sent to you. Social visitors can also still book their next visit during their visit.

You can also book online, visit: www.gov.uk/prison-visits. All you need is the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting and their prisoner number. You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what’s available and confirm your visit by email. If you’ve made an online visit booking request and haven’t received a confirmation email within 1-3 working days, call the prison to check progress.

You could have handed property in on a visit up until November 1st 2013 where a prior application has been approved , but this has now been stopped.

Transport to the Prison

HMP Gartree is located some distance from the nearest train station which is at Market Harborough. There is a bus service from Market Harborough. The number 44 which runs Monday to Saturday from the train station via the square to HMP Gartree. The service leaves the train station at 35 minutes past the hour from 09:35 (with extra services at 07:35 and 08:20) until 18:35. The service from Gartree to Market Harborough runs at 7 minutes past the hour from 08:07 until 18:07.  There is a railway station at Market Harborough. Taxis are available but they are expensive. The prison provides a free taxi service to and from the railway station on Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors wishing to use it need to book their place by ringing Murphys taxis (01858 410210). The taxi leaves the station at 13:45 and leaves the prison after visits, once all visitors who have booked their place are ready to go.

If travelling by car take the M1 and exit at junction 20 and take the A427 towards Market Harborough for 10 miles. At the village of Lubenham, turn left towards Foxton. After 1 mile turn right towards Gartree, 400 yards on the right. Parking is available on the site.
