Visits and Getting There, HMP Bure

Social visits are held in 5 sessions , Friday afternoon 14:00-16:00 and Satirday and Sunday at 09:30-11:39 and 14:00-16:00. On the last Friday on each month, the visiting session is cancelled and replaced by a Children’s Visiting session. 

You can book visits online at www.gov.uk/prison-visits . All you need is the name and date of birth of the person you are visiting and their prisoner number. You can choose up to 3 possible dates and times. Prison booking staff will check what’s available and confirm your visit by email.

  • Tue: 08:30 – 13:30 & 14:30 – 16:30 & 17:00 – 20:00
  • Wed: 17:00 – 20:00
  • Thu: 17:00 – 20:00
  • Fri: 08:30 to 12:30
  • Sat – Sun: 08:30 – 16:30

You can also get your Visiting Order emailed direct to you. You must print out the VO and bring it with you on your visit or you wont be allowed into the visits hall. If you want to use this service, firstly email [email protected]   with the header ‘ VO Email Request’ . In your email you must make it clear that you want to get the VO by email ( eg ‘I wish to apply for the option to receive Visiting Orders by email’), and you must give the name, date of birth, and home address of those applying for a visit. Don’t forget the make clear the email address you want the VO sending to.

The prison is in a rural location, not well served by public transport. There is a limited bus service, call 0871 200 2233 for the national travel service help line look online at Travel East Anglia . The prison does run subsidised bus which you can book at the same time you book your visit, and this picks up at both the bus and the train station in Norwich. The nearest train station is Norwich, about 15 miles away. You can get taxi’s or prebook them on 01603 700700/666611/455555 but they aren’t cheap at around £20 one way.

By car leave Norwich in a northern direction on the B1150 sign posted North Walsham. Follow the B1150 through Sco Ruston and Scottow taking the first left after North Walsham Rugby Club. Take the 4th left onto Hautbois Road and then the third left into HMP Bure. The sat nav address is postcode NR10 5AJ.

There are parking facilities at the prison, follow the signs upon arrival. Dedicated spaces for disabled persons are also available.
