Visits & Getting There, HMP Brixton

Visits are held at the following times, they vary according to which week of the month it is.

  • For the 1st 3 weeks they are held at:
    • Tuesday: 08:30 – 10:00, 10:30 – 11:45, 13:15 – 14:30, 15:00 – 16:15
    • Thursday: 08:30 – 10:00, 10:30 – 11:45, 13:15 – 14:30, 15:00 – 16:15
    • Saturday: 08:30 – 10:00, 10:30 – 11:45, 13:15 – 14:30, 15:00 – 16:15
    • Sunday: ( enhanced prisoners only) 13:45-16:45
  •  During the 4th week of the month they are held at:
    • Tuesday: 08:30 – 11:45, 13:15 – 16:15
    • Thursday: 08:30 – 11:45, 13:15 – 16:15
    • Saturday: 08:30 – 11:45, 13:15 – 16:15
    • Sunday: ( enhanced prisoners only) 13:45-16:45

You can book visits online at  https://www.gov.uk/prison-visits . All you will need is the prisoners number, their date of birth and the dates of birth of the visitors. If you haven’t had a confirmation e-mail after 3 days, call 020 8678 1433. This number is manned 13:30 – 16:30 weekdays, and you can also make new bookings by calling. You can only book vists up to 28 days in advance.

Book into the visitors centre at least 30 mins before your scheduled visiting time and they will complete the required security checks, including biometric identification checks. You will need to have ID; picture driving license or passport plus proof of address such as a bank statement or an up to date utility bill. As at all prisons, there are strict rules about what you can take into the visits hall ( no mobile phones, cigarettes, food or drink etc) and you are expected to dress appropriately. You can take £10 in cahnge into the visits hall to buy snacks and coffee/tea etc

The prison is well served by buses, #’s 45, 59, 109, 118, 133, 159, and 250 all stop close to the prison ( get off at Jebb Avenue). The nearest station is Brixton. Click here for timetables

If travelling by car, the prison is situated one mile south of Brixton on the A23, off Brixton Hill. Parking on Jebb Avenue is restricted to permit holders and a clamping scheme is in operation and there is no parking available at the prison, off-street parking is available nearby.
